I had a quiet Christmas this year, by visiting my in -law’s home in Seremban. The atmosphere over there was not as great as in KL , Penang or Melaka and you can f eel the Chinese New year mood rather than the yuletide. However, I had a good relaxing and peaceful long weekend over there and unwind, whereas my kid enjoyed the company of his cousins while my wife got a lot of catching up to do with her siblings.
On the way back, we thought of stopping at Yong Peng, which was an hour drive from JB. Yong Peng is a small town which is famous for its cookies and foochow food. We patronises Soon Kee restaurant, which was one of the well-known ones in Yong Peng.
Had some cups of refreshing chinese tea before the meal.
Vegetables is always one of the ‘must’ among the dishes we ordered. We ordered a ‘guai tao’, prepared light and steamed.
Here’s the famous dish among Foochow food and erm..which I called the foochow soup. I still don’t know how to order this soup but the waitress always understand when I mentioned foochow soup… 🙂 Anyway, this may be the best one I’ve ever tried so far. It tasted even better when you drops some black vinegar onto it.
Had a delicious canto-style steamed fish. The meat is smooth and well, you feel healthy after eating this.
Restaurant Soon Kee is located at :- 80, Jalan Besar, 83700 Yong Peng, Johor.
I had my saturday afternoon tea break at Lavender, Jusco Permas Jaya again when I suddenly craved for kaya toast and a nice cup of coffee while shopping. Lavender’s pandan kaya is great and they always make great toasts. Here’s a picture from inside.
There you are…..the coffee I’m waiting for to refresh me on a tired and lazy saturday afternoon. Freshly brewed from quality coffee beans, it’s best to sip it while it’s hot!
The aroma from the coffee complements the nice kaya from the crispy toast. Made from Lavender’s own bakery, the toasts are crunchy with the fragrance of the kaya slowly released to your taste bud. 😀
As above is a recommended Ciabatta with ham and cheese. One of my favourites too! The Ciabatta is also crispy, fresh from the hot oven with cheese melted all over the ham and bread. Yummy!!! That makes another great afternoon, after returning from a Xmas party in church.
It was last friday night and been a long week! It’s not really because of work but it’s the struggle between laziness due to the holidays and discipline to get the engine moving. 😀 Thus, looking forward to the weekend , which packaged with a kid’s xmas party (yeap, it’s for my kid…) I decided to eat something good and different. The thought of Japanese food comes to my mind. Yeap, my family and I went to Don Sushi again.
This time around, I manage to catch a picture of the restaurant with my Nokia camera.
Salmon temaki….yummy…. !! One of my favourite temaki with juicy fresh salmon.
As above, a nice plate of california maki to go along with. 🙂
I ordered a salmon teriyaki rice set which comes with the below side dishes – agedashi tofu and cawanmushi, and not forgetting a delicious bowl of rice! I simply loves cawanmushi!!
And not forgetting what my wife ordered, a healthy vegetarian ramen as above. It’s real hot, look at the smoke coming out from it. The soup was great and that what makes good ramen!
Don Sushi is located at:- 299A, Jalan Sutera, Taman Sentosa, JB.
There are also a few Don Sushi outlets around JB, in Tesco Tebrau City and Carrefour near Taman Molek.
Typical of me, I love to have a nice tea break on a sat or sun afternoon and the requirement is the coffee or tea must be good. 🙂 Thus, I usually patronised those ‘modern’ kopitiams in town with my family, before or after our weekend shopping. Well, I was in Taman Sutera again and thought it’s a good idea to have something light for tea. Here’s Tea Garden again, which I’ve blogged before.
The ‘kopitiam’ taken from the opposite road.
This time round, I managed to capture a picture of the interior of the kopitiam since there was less crowd on that sunday.
OK, let’s talk about the food. Well, nothing grand except having a few bites on the freshly made sandwich with ham, egg and cheese which comes together with crispy fried fries and salad. This is their recommended club sandwich which is quite a bestseller. I also had a refreshing cup of teh-si (tea with fresh milk and sugar).
That’s good enough to rejuvenate my small family and I while we continued to spend the rest of the day doing some Christmas and Chinese New Year shopping.
Tea Garden is located at:- 53 & 55, Jalan Sutera Tanjung 8/2, Taman Sutera Utama, 81300 Skudai, JB.
I was curious to check out this newly opened Nando’s eatery in JB. Well, being not a KL folk, I have never tried any Nando’s before till it opened an outlet in the southern state.
It’s just a small restaurant located at level 1 in Pelangi Plaza but it do attracted quite a crowd on a cloudy saturday afternoon. It’s halal too, thus not a problem with our muslims friends.
I somehow like the way they arrange the condiments and sauces neatly.
A closer shot of one of my favorite sauce, garlic! it’s spicy anyway…
Like Kenny Rogers Roasters, their main dish is their roasted chicken, which comes in 1/4, 1/2 or full chicken. You can chose two side dishes to go with it. Verdict:- Their roasted chicken is much better than Kenny Rogers! 🙂
I also ordered a mushroom soup (oops..spilled out a bit) which comes with garlic bread for appetizer. The soup was great but it’s a bit spicy.
And, here’s the ultimate dish- their newly promoted Peri KickStarter. It’s actually a platter of what they served there. I especially love the sausages and the pita. Great dish if you like to sample their food but the plate is not really meant for one person. I have to take away some, since I can’t finish the whole plate.
Here’s a list of their outlets all over Malaysia.
