Station 1 Cafe

Well, I was feeling quite restless and tired after work last friday night and decided to have something quick while I go back and rest. And, my wife who was driving passed by this cafe and thought maybe we just have our dinner here as it’s also stressful driving around thinking of where to have dinner. To my surprise, I feel so much better after been there for about 30 minutes. There was a live performance too, where singers were performing mostly slow and popular songs from english to mandarin. The place is also partly ‘open’, thus you can enjoyed the night breeze and with the dim lights, I really feel relaxed here. Here’s what I had for dinner.

IMG_1062Salmon Steak – I like the presentation. It took a while for them to prepare the meal, probably been focusing on the outlook?


IMG_1049Here’s a quick snap of the interior. Quite a nice place for a chat, have a beer or coffee to wind down the day. This station 1 cafe is located at Taman Tun Aminah. There are few outlets in JB like Taman Molek, Bukit Indah and etc. Here’s their website.


Dynasty Dragon Restaurant, KL

Well, I was in KL over the Hari Raya holidays to celebrate my dad-in-law’s birthday. And, after trying out the food over here in  this restaurant, I really must blog it as it’s really good! Good service, great food, nice ambience and environment and clean kitchen!  You can actually see the kitchen from outside the shopping mall, as there’s a  glass window outside which give you a good view of the kitchen. I like the concept!

Ok, here’s the food…..

IMG_0980Mini Buddha Jump Over The Wall – soup boiled with scallop, shark fins, mushrooms…etc. Gives us  the energy to makan the rest of the food …LOL

IMG_0981Crispy Suckling Piglet Skin – The skin is very crispy and it’s great to wrapped it in a pau(below) after dipping into the black plum sauce.

IMG_0990Special Braised Estuary Grouper – One of the best dishes for the night. The fish meat is very tasty and fully absorbed the aroma of the gravy, which was nicely done!

IMG_0997Stir Fried Piglet with Soya Sauce – which was cooked from the suckling piglet, after all the ‘skins’ are eaten.

IMG_1003Phoenix Golden Rice – Surprisingly, this is good too. I had two bowls of the vermicilli after all the food above! It’s so nicely fried  and delicious!

IMG_1004Sweet Fancy Duets – the yellow kuih sorta like ‘malai kou’ (cantonese) with pandan kaya spread. I love it too!

Bo’ Cafe

This eatery is a bit special… it sells clothes, shoes and other fashion apparels at an industrial area and is beautifully renovated. There are two sections, the shop and the cafe. It also has a beautiful garden which really makes you feel good to dine there. And, they served vegetarian food, but not the usual type of vegetarian restaurants that you find in town. The food is prepared in a way like those found in bistros, for example Lavender or Yew’s Cafe, but minus the steaks.
IMG_0738Nice interior…when I was there, it was tea time, thus it’s not so crowded then. There are folks enjoying their tea and relaxing the afternoon away.

IMG_0722A place designed for nature lovers …there’s a small, shallow pond in front with koi fishes. Nice place to snap pictures.

IMG_0728At the side of the cafe, there was another garden and pond which was designed like a ‘pak kua’. Wonder if this is good ‘feng shui’?

IMG_0731OK, here’s the food… Pesto Pasta. (RM8.80). It’s pasta but tasted differently from the typical italian pastas. They sprinkle some sort of herbs on it and it tastes good with the olive oil. Very healthy indeed!


‘Tempeh’ Cutlet (RM4.80) – This is very special and first time I ever tried it this way. ‘Tempeh’ is made from fermented soyabeans. Click here to find out more about tempeh. It was very delicious indeed when dipped into the sauce.

IMG_0736Mushroom soup – Rm6.80. This mushroom soup is no campbell’s tin product but it’s freshly made. You can ‘feel’ the freshness as it was not salty like those found in the tin.

Good food…

I realised most of the times, the good makan places always ‘hidden’ and they are difficult to locate until someone brought you there. Like this one, it was at the heart of JB city centre but was hidden away from the main streets.


Braised pork with ‘mui choy’– The dark ‘mui choy’ was sweet and the pork which contains 50% layer of fat in each pieces are so well-absorbed with the gravy. I can easily eat this with bowls of white rice. Very appetising!


Fried chicken with mango slices– Lots of meat in the chicken, and it’s so crunchy when you bit on the golden fried skin. The meat slowly melt into your mouth with the sweet and sour mango slices and gravy.  Another appetising dish and reminds me of the similar Thai dish.


The ‘Four Heavenly Kings’ – Brinjal, kankong, petai and ladies’ fingers. Not sure if other places recognised the name as this is what it’s typically called here in JB. I especially love the petai which was cooked without chilli where you feel the natural taste of the crunchy petai. I like the lady’s fingers too!


Claypot shark meat with ginger and white wine. OK, this dish tells all, it’s the main one! The shark meat are cooked in a claypot mixed with white wine and lots and lots of ginger. The white meat is not that hard as it’s used to be and it’s deliciously prepared in an healthy way!

Sizzler Restaurant

Hi everyone!! I’m back after taken a short break from blogging. I was kinda busy and was sick  too( thank God it’s not a flu..) , thus decided to rest and relax! Btw, check out Sizzler restaurant, which has been in Singapore for almost a decade more. There used to be a couple of branches but it seems to close down and left only two – in  Toa Payoh and Suntec City. I usually patronised the Orchard branch many years ago, especially during lunch on fridays!!


They have a salad bar which offers all sorts of veggies, soup, ice-cream and fruits and it’s eat-all-you-can buffet style. Usually, the salad bar comes free if you order their main meals  like sirloin steak, grilled salmon,chicken chop and etc. Ok, as below is my own decoration of salad….nice right? 😛


Here’s what I picked – sirloin steak. The steak is done medium rare and the meat was very tender. It comes together with fries and mushroom sauce. It was great!!!


Another serving of salad in One thousand Island sauce ….to balance my meat intake …:)


After having some fruits which also available at the salad bar, I helped myself to the ice-cream bar. There were vanilla, chocolate or a mix of both flavours and you can mixed with a varity of syrup available at the bar with sprinkles of nuts, raisins and etc. It’s buffet, so you can have as many scoops as you can. 🙂
